Strike pay sign up, October 6 and 7

Thank you to all members for their ongoing support of our bargaining team during this challenging round of negotiations. We now have additional bargaining dates set for October 1st and 2nd.

As we head toward an October 8 strike date, our union needs members to volunteer to be picket captains, or else our picket lines won’t function and people won’t get their strike pay on time.

CUPE Local 204 realizes that facing an impending strike may be very difficult and stressful to many of our Members.

We want you to know that there are many resources that are available to you during this time, some of which will be listed below.

CUPE Local 204 will be setting up extra dates for our Members to sign up for their strike pay. We will be in Winnipeg (HSC CanadInns), Winkler and Brandon.

Today CUPE and the MGEU jointly announced a strike notice for Tuesday, October 8, 2024. Why is there a potential strike? Health care support workers have made it clear that if government wants to fix the staffing crisis in health care, they need to offer better wages and supports that don’t leave health care support workers behind. In August CUPE and MGEU members voted against the employer’s last proposal, and we have not seen significant movement from the employer since then.
